Mix ‘N’ Pick Theatre are looking for a group of freelance actors / workshop leaders / children’s entertainers for the continual growth of the company.

This summer we have been performing small scale children’s theatre shows at the Boxsmall Festival in Edinburgh city centre.

We are now looking to create a pool of freelance staff that we can use for corporate events, birthday parties, workshops in schools and to perform in children’s shows around Scotland. At least one year’s experience in this field of work is essential.

Salary will be based on the work offered, starting from £9 an hour.

Actors must have a base in Scotland.

Audition / Interview will include performing a short monologue for children. Immediate work available for the right actors.

All staff must have a PVG.

New Children’s Marketing Competition: Open for Entries Now

As part of The Bookseller’s Children’s Conference, we’re launching a new competition to find the most inventive marketing and publicity campaigns in children’s and Young Adult publishing. We’re happy to announce that we’re officially open for entries now!

The judging panel will be looking for innovation, creativity and commercial awareness. The campaign can be for a children’s print or digital book, from board books to YA, fiction or non-fiction. The competition is also open to imprints, new platforms, or groups of books as well as new titles.

The Children’s Marketing Competition is open only to companies with delegates attending the Bookseller Children’s Conference at Milton Court, London. Delegates who have already signed up are eligible to enter. To book your conference tickets, visit the webpage now.

Winners will get the chance to present their campaign at the Children’s Conference on 29th September. They will also receive advertising spend with The Bookseller.

The overall winner will receive £2,000 to spend on print or digital advertising with The Bookseller. The two runners-up will each receive £1,500 ad spend. One of the runner-up prizes is reserved for a low or no-budget campaign. Low or no-budget campaigns are also eligible to win the overall prize.

The winner of the Audience Award, voted for at the conference, will receive £500 ad spend.

The marketing campaign must have gone live between 1st September 2014 and 1st August 2015. Publication dates are not taken into account. Companies may submit two campaigns each.
Deadline for submissions: Wednesday 16th September 2015. Entries received after this date will not be considered.

We’re looking for a group of young people (aged roughly 18-20) to feature in an experimental children’s film and nature study by the award-winning artist filmmaker Margaret Salmon.

The film will capture the experience of a young girl who accidentally becomes lost in the woods one evening while camping with her family.

Eglantine is Salmon’s first long form film and will combine a range of cinematic genres and techniques; from carefully observed wildlife documentary to narrative drama, hand drawn animation, live musical performance and interpretative sound. It is being made for cinema release.

Criteria:

– Must be available on Skye on 6 August (10.30am-9.30pm) & 7 August (9am-4.30pm)

– You should ideally be aged between 18-20

– You need not be a professional actor or musician

– We need one person who will perform a song (on any instrument) or play an instrument without vocals

– You should ideally be used to camping

– You can apply as an individual or a group

There is a fee of £100 per person (£150 for musician)

Sometimes creative talent needs a little bit of financial help to reach its full potential.

Whatever your creative passion, look no further than the Young Scot and Creative Scotland’s Nurturing Talent – Time to Shine Fund.

Who can apply?

Anyone aged 14-20, living in Scotland. Individuals can apply for up to £200 in funding while groups of two or more people can apply for up to £750.

Applications from professional arts organisations will not be accepted.

Can I apply for funding on behalf of an organisation?

Only if it can be clearly demonstrated that you, as an individual or a group, are the key decision maker and planner of a one-off artistic development project or initiative.

What kind of thing can I apply for?

The fund provides financial support to help nurture talent in a number ways. From recording a demo with your band, to putting on an exhibition of your own artwork, and lots more in between.

Scrapyard is a place to discover the unexpected, to take risks and where the best work is often unfinished, we invite you to witness our one off creations.

Scrapyard is a theatre project which invites theatre makers of all disciplines to experiment with new ideas and collaborations. Scrapyard have worked with Aberdeen Performing Arts to bring together theatre artists from across the North East to participate in a two week project to create exciting, fresh pieces of theatre. Participating artists are placed in teams, given a stimulus and challenged to create a short play in two weeks. In this performance, we present for you the final results in an energetic evening of raw performance.
