SPECTRA, in conjunction with Aberdeen City Council and Curated Place, are looking to commission a photographer for our 2017 event.

Our international light festival features works of art by a range of local, national and international artists centred in 4 main city centre sites in Aberdeen. This signature festival is now in its fourth year and serves to showcase the city’s cultural status to the rest of the world.

We are looking for a professional photographer with significant experience of taking photos in low-light or at night, documenting public events, and producing high quality work for print and online platforms.

Content

Primarily we are looking for 35 royalty free images of the event as follows:

  • The event as a whole (specifically showing the scale of the event)
  • Group shots – in general and at individual installations
  • Individual installations
  • Interactive activities
  • Community engagement projects
  • School engagement projects
  • Hero shots
  • Landmarks of Aberdeen included in the event

Whilst we will require stock images for future marketing use, the successful photographer is encouraged to seek out unique and creative opportunities to capture the relevant imagery too.

All applications must be received via Public Contract Scotland by 12 noon on Monday November 21st 2016.  If you wish to bid for this commission you must register as a supplier on Public Contract Scotland (super straightforward to do this) and then drop us an email to Zmalleysmith@aberdeencity.gov.uk to let us know you have registered.  We will then send you on the quick quote link to allow you to submit an application.

A call to all professional creatives in the North East of Scotland

Image/Object is being set up to explore the possibility of having an event for professional creative practitioners in the North East of Scotland to showcase their work & creative spaces.

We will be holding a night of conversation at Transition Extreme on the 7th of November 2016 from 7-8pm in order to garner ideas & input from the professional creative community of the North East to see if there is indeed a desire or a need for an event where professionals can showcase their work & places of work.

We are aiming this conversation at anyone “being creative” as a professional practice – this could be Computer Programmers, Artists, Makers, Designers and more. If your main income is derived from your creative practice, this might be for you!

If you would like to attend the event, please drop us an email at :io.imageobject@gmail.com or you can also submit feedback & comments via our survey : https://goo.gl/forms/5SjtLfq5leR2bJB03

We also have a faceBook page for discussion & “live” information.

Please pass this email on to anyone you think might be interested in this discussion. We hope to see you on the 7th of November at TX.

Widely considered to be the first full-length animated feature in the history of cinema,The Adventures of Prince Achmed is a beautifully crafted piece of storytelling based loosely on the Arabian Nights. The film is an exciting tale of sword fights, genies and adventure told using a silhouette animation technique pioneered by director Lotte Reiniger.

Filmhouse have commissioned acoustic trio Sink to bring their live sounds to this very special animated feature as part of a Scotland-wide tour. Reaching beyond their usual instrumentation of violin, accordion and saxophone to create a score that is in part conjured, Sink set the quiet air into magical vibration.

Part of CineScore Live, a touring season of live music and film events supported by Film Hub Scotland.

A new live art festival is set to launch in Aberdeen next month.

Lead organiser of the event Karolina Szpyrko said live performance art will take place at the beach including contemporary dance and theatrical performances.

She said: “The call out for artists has closed so I’m in the process of curating that now.

“The idea behind the festival all comes down to our love for the beach and a desire to revive it.

“The beach used to be so prominent in people’s lives, especially at the end of the 19th Century and Aberdeen used to be a main summer holiday destination for Scotland.

“The festival is meant to be retro inspired.”

The three-day festival will take place from Friday, May 20, until Sunday, May 22.

An exhibition will also take place, in collaboration with the Central Library, featuring old postcards and photos of Aberdeen beach.

Organisers of the exhibition, which will take place at the Beach Ballroom between Monday, May 16, and Wednesday, May 18, are looking for city residents to submit some of their own snapshots and postcards.
