Professor Stuart MacDonald OBE 1948 – 2016

It is with the greatest sadness and shock that we must confirm the news that our dear husband, dad and granddad died suddenly on Thursday 2nd June 2016. Stuart had spent the early evening upbeat at a WASPS board meeting with colleagues. On his way to meet a friend Stuart suffered from a massive heart attack and despite their incredible efforts the medical team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary were unable to resuscitate him.

Throughout his life, Stuart was a passionate art educationalist and this brought the family to Glasgow where he became Senior Art & Design Educational Advisor with Strathclyde Regional Council.

Stuart was known to many as the founding and hugely successful Director of The Lighthouse, Scotland’s Centre for Architecture, Design and the City, an organisation that flourished under his influential leadership from 1998- 2006. For the next three years he was Head of Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen until retirement, and followed this role as Emeritus Professor of Creative Industries at The Robert Gordon University…
