Freelance Lead Artist and Lead Designer (2 Roles)

Look & Learn will support emerging artists and young creatives to realise their ideas and create new work in the North East through mentoring, practical training and residencies. This partnership between the Creative Learning Team, SMART and Robert Gordon University’s LOOK AGAIN Visual Art & Design Festival is funded by Youth Arts Collective North East and Aberdeen City Council.

We invite applications from creative practitioners to develop and lead the programme through the following stages:
-Research, develop and produce new collaborative works inspired by the City’s archives, these works will inform the whole project
-Devise and deliver a practical mentoring programme in the form of a residency for four Associate Artists aged up to 25 years. The Associate Artists will go on to coach a further ten aspiring young creatives
-Oversee the development and delivery by the Associate Artists of 10 micro-residencies for aspiring young creatives to create a body of work and pass on their skills through youth workshops
-‘Sharing the Learning’ – curate a range of outputs from the project in a creative and informative way

Skills and experience required:
-Inspirational, high-quality artistic and contemporary practice (visual art/design)
-Ability to research source material (the archive) and apply this in a creative and contemporary way
-Ability to work collaboratively at planning and production stages
-An imaginative and flexible approach
-Experience of working with emerging artists and young people and ability to tailor the programme to identified needs
-Track record of leading high profile projects and working within a set budget and timescale
-Presentation skills to showcase project outcomes to a high standard

The freelance fee for the project is £3,000 including expenses (around 12 days project delivery Aug–Nov 2016). There is a materials/production budget of £5,000 available, as well as the opportunity to exhibit at the Look Again Festival 2017.
