Exhibition Launch, including full Look Again Festival Launch – 5 April 2016 Context
As part of the Look Again Festival of Visual Art and Design 2016, the curatorial team wish to create an opportunity for an emerging artist from the region to devise a new work for Seventeen, Aberdeen’s Creative Hub.
The Look Again Emerging Artists commission will be in response to or in collaboration with London-based artist Doug Fishbone, and the aim is to create a new installation in April 2016, for the front area of Seventeen, Aberdeen’s creative hub, with the working title, ‘Departure Lounge’, a place to depart from as you ‘become a tourist in your own city’, the strap line of the Look Again festival.
Doug Fishbone is also being commissioned by the Look Again Festival to deliver a key new performative art work as part of the festival programme. The work will be inspired by Aberdeen City Archives and based on the concept of a ‘phoney bus tour; a guided tour of Aberdeen city. He will lead in a performative role, similar to his Thames River cruises commissioned by the Mayor’s Thames festival. http://www.dougfishbone.com/en/works/42 .
Look Again Bus Tour dates: 29 April – 1 May 2016.
Fishbone also recently achieved considerable acclaim for his highly popular ‘Doug Fishbone’s Leisureland Golf’ project at the Venice Biennale 2015.
As part of the Look Again Emerging Artists commission the successful artist will be awarded a fee, curatorial support from Look Again, PR through the festival brochure and publicity.
This will also provide the successful artist a valuable platform for professional development through the wider festival initiative.
