Associate Artist – Photographer

February 25, 2016

Deadline: 29 February 2016 at 17:00

APA is seeking a photographer to work as an Associate Artist on the redevelopment of Aberdeen’s ‘A’ listed Music Hall, as it undergoes a £7 million transformation to ensure that it will continue to inspire audiences, artists, communities and visitors for many more years.

During closure we are Stepping Out around the city, presenting concerts and producing an associate artist programme focusing on community engagement and creating new work inspired by the hall and its stories.

APA is seeking a photographer to document the transition of the venue and the people associated with its past, present and future. Outcomes will include a body of work reflecting the building’s transformation and the stories attached. Ideas and input into the full artistic range of possibilities will be welcome.

This Associate Artist programme is a partnership between APA and the Youth Arts Collective North East (YACNE). The artist will work with APA’s creative learning team and YACNE to deliver the project and this will include:-
• Mentoring a young emerging photographer from the North-east.
• Delivering workshops for key YACNE target groups including Looked After Children, and children who use English as an additional language.
• Contributing to the development of interpretive and learning materials and resources.

The Associate Artist will be managed by APA’s Artistic Producer and will work with APA’s creative learning manager and members of the creative team to deliver the project.

20 months starting in March 2016 with a creative contribution towards the celebratory closing weekend in early April continuing at key points throughout the redevelopment until the building re-opens.

The fee is £5,000. Reasonable travel and accommodation expenses may be paid. There is budget available towards the costs of creating work as appropriate.
