Aden Country Park Public Art Opportunity

July 20, 2015

The Friends of Aden Country Park wish to appoint an experienced artist with the relevant background to create a public art strategy for Aden Country Park.

The strategy will identify possible themes, locations, materials, and how best to introduce art interventions into “The Park” as well as identifying issues and possible barriers. The interventions should be relevant and sympathetic to The Park, extending the offer provided for visitors and enabling them to engage with the arts.

Aden Country Park is the property of and managed by Aberdeenshire Council, an important part of this contract will be to engage with all stake holders, it will be essential to make sure Council officers are fully informed and consulted.

The lead artist will familiarise themselves with The Park, the ecological environment it provides as well as its history and heritage. These factors should be integral to the strategy and will enable the artist to identify relevant themes for future developments. The lead artist will also develop concepts about how these themes may be delivered. This will include details of materials, costings, etc.

The lead artist will engage with the local community, of Mintlaw and surrounding villages to develop local support for the project and ensure our local community has input and feels a sense of ownership in this development.

The Public Art Project has two parts, the first is the development of the strategy and the second is the delivery of temporary interventions. This contract covers part one of the project but includes establishing an artists’ brief for part 2 of this project – the delivery of a range of temporary art installations in The Park. The lead artist could also take part in part two of the project.

The lead artist will report to Friends of Aden on a regular basis and present the strategy when completed.

Timescales:

•    Stage One will run from August 2015 and be completed by January 2016.  Community engagement is expected to take place August – October and to run in conjunction with an event in the Park which is scheduled for the end of September.

•    The Public Art Strategy should be completed and presented by the end of January 2016.

•    Stage Two will be delivered February – July 2016.
