CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Mark Making for Macmillan 2015

Mark Making

An art show in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support

On behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support, SMART invite you to apply to be part of ‘Mark Making’, an exhibition of contemporary art, to be held at SMART’s city centre exhibition venue at Union Square, off Market Street, in a loft style unit overlooking Aberdeen Harbour.

Artists use all forms of mark making in their creative process and to celebrate this we are inviting emerging and established creative practitioners to submit artworks for the inaugural Macmillan Cancer Support Art Show ‘Mark Making’.  This is an open brief to all creative practitioners working across all art forms and there is space within the venue to exhibit large 3D and sculptural works.  We also have eight display cases to showcase jewellery and smaller 3D works.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan Cancer Support is a ‘mark making’ charity in the services they provide to people with cancer.  2015 sees Macmillan partner with local art agency SMART to bring the Macmillan Art Show ‘Mark Making’ to the Granite City.  Macmillan Art Shows currently take place in Glasgow and Edinburgh and it is hoped that this inaugural event will be welcomed with open arms from artists and art lovers across the north east of Scotland.

This will be the first event Macmillan has done in the city for over 5 years, the art show is very important and it will provide much needed funds to help the charity provide care and support to people affected by cancer from the point of diagnosis.  We are working hard to ensure that the 4855 people who receive a cancer diagnosis every year in the Grampian region do not feel alone.

Macmillan is making several investments to new services across the North of Scotland. These include the valuable support network in the communities through our support groups and information services, transforming care after treatment programme, with bespoke patient lead services and crucial investments such as Move More Aberdeen (new physical activity programme for cancer patients) and more medical professionals.   By 2030 there will be four million people living with cancer in the UK, so it’s vital we do more.

We need to raise more funds so we can be there for more people affected by cancer, now and in the future.  To do this, we need to inspire millions to take action – whether it’s by hosting a Coffee Morning, completing a run, or buying a splendid piece of artwork from this year’s Art Show ‘Mark Making’.

Thank you for helping to make a difference.
