The ING Discerning Eye Exhibition is a show of small works independently selected by six prominent figures from the art world: two artists, two collectors and two critics.
The 2014 selectors are: artists, Nicola Green and Emma Stibbon RA; collectors, Chris Ingram (Businessman, entrepreneur and art collector) and Dr Giles Brown (Scientist, collector and art patron); and critics, Simon Martin (curator, writer and Artistic Director of Pallant House Gallery), and Helen Sumpter (Senior Editor, Art Review). The selectors will curate their own section of the exhibition, resulting in six smaller exhibitions within one, each with very distinct personalities.
The uniqueness of having each work chosen by an eminent individual, unlike in a group selected show, has earned the exhibition an excellent reputation among art lovers and collectors alike. Work is selected by open submission and also from artists invited by the selectors. The works of lesser-known artists are given the opportunity to hang alongside the work of more established artists helping to connect hundreds of new artists with new audiences.
Prizes totalling £14,500 will be awarded, including the £5,000 ING Purchase Prize, the Discerning Eye Founder’s Purchase Prize of £2,500, a £250 Prize for Sculpture and 3D Work, and up to 8 Regional Prizes of £250 each.
Artists may submit up to six works for competition. Painting, prints, drawing, photography and sculpture are all accepted. All works must be for sale and should not exceed 20” (50cm) in their largest dimension. An exhibition of selected works will take place at the Mall Galleries, London from 13 – 23 November 2014.
Works are submitted to regional collection centres, or on the final hand in dates to the Mall Galleries in London on 5 and 6 September 2014.
