Job Opportunity: Fine Art Print Editioning Trainee – Aberdeen’s Centre for Contemporary Art. Gallery exhibitions, printmaking, photography, film & video, digital media
March 26, 2014
£13,923 (One year fixed term contract)
Peacock Visual Arts is the leading visual arts organisation in Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland providing facilities in printmaking, digital media, photography and video and organizing exhibitions, commissions, workshops, talks, screenings and gigs.
Founded as Peacock Printmakers forty years ago its fine art print publishing and editioning workshops are internationally renowned and regarded.
Under the supervision of Master Printmaker Michael Waight the Trainee will provide practical assistance across all printmaking disciplines on a variety of editioning and publishing projects. In the course of this they will be helped to develop their skills and confidence: as these grow so will the tasks assigned. Time will also be programmed with the Print Curator, David McCracken, to gain experience of print curating, handling and promotion.
The position is partly financed through Creative Scotland’s Youth Employment Programme, which seeks to help boost the careers of young people interested in working in the arts, screen and creative industries.
The successful candidate will be between 20 and 30 years of age (Creative Scotland stipulation) and will already have a sound knowledge of most printmaking disciplines. We would expect this to have been acquired through the successful completion of an undergraduate degree course specialising in printmaking. Where this is not the case the candidate may be asked to demonstrate their competence by completing some practical tests.
She or he will have a communicable passion for art in general and print in particular, be able to show a clear understanding of the collaborative role of the professional fine art printer and be hugely motivated to make the most of this opportunity to launch their own career as one.
Hours of work are 35 per week, Tuesday to Saturday 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. with a one-hour (flexible) lunch break. Holiday Entitlement is 35 days per year including a two-week Christmas break and all Public Holidays.
