CCS “best of 2012 culture” awards – winners

February 1, 2013

It’s with great pleasure to announce the winners of the “best of 2012 culture” awards…

We held a very enjoyable Award Ceremony in the Belmont Cinema on the 31st of January, to which quite a few excited people came along to find out who’d won what…

there were three specific categories announced, and then the overall “best of” awards, with 1st, 2nd & 3rd places being given.

BEST FESTIVAL : DanceLive – a clear winner from the votes cast, a lot of people were very complimentary with their comments about the CityMoves dance festival in October 2012.

BEST COLLABORATION : Deliberance – a dance adaptation of “12 Angry men” choreographed by Andy Howitt, the collaboration was between CityMoves & HMT with brilliant feedback & reception… the work later went on tour around Scotland.

BEST YOUTH : The Gordon Gaitherin – coming up for its 20th Anniversary, this Youth Project was set up to encourage many elements to encourage youngsters to not only play traditional music, but to learn traditional dance AND promote youth work & mentoring.

Best Cultural Event (Activity / Organisation / Output)

3rd place : SMart Consultants – The sheer number of votes for a brilliant range of events, exhibitions & cultural work these guys earned them 3rd place overall. SMart were nominated for 7 projects in total – Tea Cosy, Foyer Restaurant Curation, SMart Gallery opening in 2012, 4H+, The Oil Barron’s Club, Fabric of the Land and SMart consultants themselves.

2nd place : The Gordon Gaitherin – again, recognised due to the level of voting by their engaged & proactive fan-base, we were so happy to celebrate their hard work.

1st place : CityMoves Dance Agency. it seemed that 2012 was the year of Dance for Aberdeen. CityMove’s hard work & devotion to coordinating & creating astounding events from traditional to contemporary dance works paid off with 23% of the total votes cast. Like smart, the volume of work they have given the North East of Scotland gave them a well deserved 1st place in the Polls.

we would also like to congratulate all the other events & organisation that were voted for in our free & public poll, they were :

You’ve been trumped on the BBC, Aberdeen artists’ society , Aberdeen City Council, Big Fat Electric Ceilidh, COAST festival, NEOS , Dance Hunt, Demented Eloquence, fabric of the land, Lemon Tree Writers present Blaze O’ Glory, MarchMoves , Portsoy folk festival, Smart Gallery, Tea Cosy, The Foyer Gallery, Culture Crush, WORD festival , Portsoy folk festival, Deliberance, Edinburgh Quartet residency at The University of Aberdeen, michelle walker art gallery, The Oil Baron’s Club by John Walter , SURVIVAL 4, Dancing Parallel, Bands Nite at Banchory Town Hall, Streetcar Named Desire, Dannsa Connections.
