Scottish Sculpture Workshop to help wannabe artists create North East Open Studios pieces

September 21, 2012

After a successful start to North East Open Studios (NEOS) 2012, VSA’s Easter Anguston Farm, Peterculter, will host a Scottish Sculpture Workshop (SSW) demonstration on Saturday (22 September), adding to woodland installation art trails through the extensive farm grounds.

Easter Anguston Farm, run by north-east social care charity VSA, officially opened its one-week-each-year large-scale art gallery – comprising a more artwork than ever before – on Saturday (15 September 2012), following a VIP preview evening for more than 70 guests last Wednesday (12 September 2012).

For those inspired by what they have seen during NEOS, the SSW workshop lets wannabe artists make a sculpture, keepsake or piece of jewellery using the ancient artistic technique of cuttlefish casting. Participants will be guided through the metal casting process at the drop-in sessions on Saturday (22 September 2012) between 10am and 4pm.

Emily Wyndham Gray, curator of facilities and programmes at SSW, said: “We’re all so excited to have been invited to join with Easter Anguston Farm for this year’s NEOS gallery. We’ve had such a warm welcome to an amazing community.”

The 2012 treasures at Easter Anguston Farm have proved popular so far, with highlights including giant Edinburgh Zoo-inspired pandas and their mini counterparts, a very interactive Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and a series of Jackson Pollock and Dr Who-inspired paintings.

VSA’s Easter Anguston Farm’s NEOS 2012 gallery is open until Sunday 23 September, from 10am until 4pm daily, with free entry, a café and free parking. Drop-in cuttlefish casting workshops will available, weather pending, on Saturday 22 September between 10am and 4pm in the gazebo by the café. Sessions cost £8 and last between 10 and 30 minutes.
