Aberdeen Art Gallery is currently developing plans for major improvements to its facilities and visitor experience. The project will provide improved resources for users of the gallery, allowing a range of new activities to be delivered. As part of these plans, we are interested in feedback from existing visitors to the gallery. Peacock Visual Arts, the leading contemporary visual arts organisation in Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland, is looking to recruit a Communications Manager with a demonstrable track record in marketing and communications and a clear passion for the arts to join our team.
Aim of the post:
To increase public participation in all PVA activities and to raise its profile on a local, national and international level.
Remuneration and Terms:
Full-time. 35 hours of work per week, Monday – Friday 9.30 –5.30. There will be ad-hoc evening and weekend working as part of this role. A salary of £22,000 per annum can be offered for the right candidate.

Applications for the 2012 educational courses will be open in February 2012. All courses will run between the dates of July 31- August 11 with programmes running for a vairety of times and dates during this time. Please check the website regularly for updates.
One of the main aims of the festival is to provide an accessible educational scheme where young artists from the North east and around the UK can come together in a creative environment to improve their skills.
Musicians, dancers, pipers and singers are all encouraged to come along and experience our workshops and master-classes, carried out each year by some of the best tutors from around Scotland and Europe.
We are committed to nurturing and encouraging talent across the arts sectors with varying abilities, so that young people can learn from being a part of the creative process.
This year we have a variety of projects that young people can take part in, some are being offered for the very first time. So come along and get involved in one of the world’s foremost festivals of youth arts.

We are delighted to offer you a short course in Watercolour Painting with professional artist Jenny Hunter. Running over 5 weeks you will be introduced to the materials required and guided through traditional techniques including washes and mark making with comprehensive demonstrations. We will look at colour theory and composition and in the later stages introduce other media which can be used with watercolour.

At the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art we have been celebrating sculpture in its many forms within the hugely popular exhibition, The Sculpture Show. The whole of the Gallery has been used to showcase a breathtaking variety of works, ranging from Impressionist masterpieces by Rodin and Degas to contemporary art by Karla Black, Martin Boyce, Rachel Adams and Elizabeth Price. You can also see works by the biggest names in British sculpture like Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth and William Turnbull.
As part of the exhibition we are hosting an evening of newly devised performances specifically produced with the The Sculpture Show and some of its key works in mind.
The evening will feature performances and video work by artists Calvin Laing, Catrin Jeans, Tessa Lynch, David Sherry and Shelly Nadashi.

Craft Town Scotland is inviting applications from UK based craft practitioners who wish to undertake a residency linked to the Crafts Council’s touring exhibition ‘Lab Craft: digital adventures in contemporary craft’.
The overarching aim of the residency is to tailor a Youth and Cross-Generational project to the exhibition whilst relating it to the culture of the local area. The residency content should include elements geared towards encouraging the participation of several of our target groups, specifically primary and secondary students and residents 55+years.
We are looking for a dynamic, inspiring and self-motivated person with a proven track record of delivering innovative and thought-provoking work across a wide range of ages and abilities. You will be an established practitioner within your own discipline. It is recognised that such a person will have exhibited widely in a variety of galleries and museums.
Education and research will form a significant part of your practice; experience of using a variety of techniques and materials within a local community context would be beneficial.
It is envisaged that the Residency will be up to 6 weeks duration.
An outline sum of a maximum £4,750 has been earmarked for this project;
£600 makers fee per week (inclusive of travel/accommodation)
£525 research/materials (maker)
£625 research/materials costs (max 16 participants).
The appointment will be made on a freelance basis; therefore all fees are inclusive of VAT.
The residency will take place between 1st June and 13th July 2012 and will make a significant contribution to our ‘2012 Year of Creative Scotland’ programme.

Craft Town Scotland/ West Kilbride Community Initiative Limited
Craft Town Scotland is an award-winning community driven project and registered charity which has provided subsidised workshop and display space to designer makers for over a decade. Our aim has always been to promote and support craft at grass roots level whilst placing emphasis on highlighting the work of professional designer makers/applied artists.
The Barony Centre is a new, exciting and inspiring, community led £1.6 million development. The venue opened to the public on the 1st May 2012 and incorporates 210 sq m of craft exhibition and retail space and an independent café. A raised mezzanine area within the centre houses a 67.7 sq m learning studio which interconnects with a 37.1 sq masterclass /residency studio. The venue will offer a rolling programme of craft and cross art form exhibitions, education and events.
